Search engine and content aggregator Google has launched Buzz, an extension of its Gmail web email service. Buzz users will be able to share information, photographs, videos and messages with each other.

This is an obvious response by Google to social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

The Guardian reports that at event held at Google headquarters in Mountain View, California, Buzz was referred to as “the poster child” for the company’s future.
Buzz users will also be able to see what is happening around them through their mobile phones.

Google’s Gmail currently has more than 150 million users worldwide. In comparison, Facebook, now six years old, has more than 400 million users globally.
