SA involvement in Golden Panda Award

Wed, 12 Nov 2008

Johannesburg-based Russell Campbell was involved in the BBC's ground breaking Life in Cold Blood - Armoured Giants programme which has just won the Golden Panda Award at this year’s Wildscreen Festival. The Panda Awards are presented to the world's best wildlife and environmental filmmakers, with the golden award the highest and most prestigious accolade for natural world filmmaking.

The sequence shot by Campbell that appeared in the winning episode of Life in Cold Blood, shows a dramatic mating story of green turtles and was filmed off the east coast of Borneo. The mating sequence was voted as one of the top ten highlights of the whole of the Life in Cold Blood series and was used to promote and sell the BBC Natural History Unit programmes to a world-wide audience.

Campbell now films with the RED One Digital Cinema camera, and is looking forward to filming the underwater world in 4K with his soon to be completed custom made underwater housing.
