
GTV, the pan African pay TV service will attend MIPCOM 2008 and is keen to acquire programmes to fill slots for its seven channels, G Prime, G Series, G Africa, G Sports 1, G Sports 2, G Xtra and G Star.
GTV’s acquisition team is planning to acquire top UK and US drama, series and movies as well as factual, kids, daytime talk shows, religion, education, lifestyle and entertainment formats. While the programming slates for GTV’s francophone channels will include French-language movies, series, factual and children’s formats.
Speaking on his plans to extend the reach and service of GTV, Julian McIntyre, Founder and Managing Director said: “These are exciting times for GTV. According to a recent survey by Balancing Act five out of seven subscribers in Africa now choose GTV and we plan to expand the service to over 30 countries by year-end.”
He added: “We are always on the lookout for premium family content appropriate to our G channels and MIPCOM gives us the perfect opportunity to meet talented producers and content providers, especially the independents who want to break into the African market.”
In addition to its own channels, subscribers to GTV’s service can also watch international channels such as BBC World, Sky News, MTV Base, E!, Aljazeera; Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon among others. Since its launch in June 2007, GTV has been redefining pay-TV service in Africa with a balanced and carefully selected choice of sports and family entertainment programming.
The pan-African broadcaster is home to top worldclass sports events across Africa including the Barclays Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga and many African Football leagues. It also offers quality African and international family entertainment programmes at an affordable price. GTV currently offers its service in 20 markets across the continent and estimates that over 1.25 million regular viewers tune to GTV on a monthly basis.
GTV is already available in Botswana, Cameroon, DRC, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and is currently proceeding with a phased roll-out across sub-Saharan Africa.
