
Six major Hollywood studios, as represented by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA), have taken software company RealDVD to court over a new product which allows users to make copies of DVD films on their computers.
According to the MPA, the software will promote piracy as it will allow users to illegally copy films that they rent. The stance taken by RealNetowrks is that the software is “fair use” compliant and is no different to software that allows users to make copies of CDs on their hard drives. (Source: Studio Briefing)
Still on the subject of films and computers, Paramount’s smash hit Iron Man will come pre-loaded on several new Dell desktop and laptop computers as part of a deal between the two companies. VideoBusiness.com reports that Paramount plans to offer more films on new computers.
