Jafar Panahi, the award-winning Iranian filmmaker who was arrested in Tehran on the grounds of producing an “anti-regime” film in March, has been released on bail. The film in question reportedly concerns 2009’s disputed Iranian elections.
Prior to his imprisonment, Panahi was due to be a judge at the recent Cannes Film Festival. His first film, The White Balloon, won the Camera d’Or at Cannes in 1995. (Source: Studio Briefing)
