As from 5 April, pay-TV broadcaster M-Net’s popular Afrikaans soapie, Binnelanders, will air from Mondays to Fridays for an hour from 6pm to 7pm. Formerly half an hour long, the new look Binnelanders will be called Binneland Sub Judice as the soap’s original hospital setting (Binneland Clinic) has been expanded to include  storylines centred around a law firm (RPK Incorporated).

The announcement was made at an elaborate press launch on 11 March at the new home of Binnelanders, the recently built, state of the art Stark Studios in Fontainebleau, north of Johannesburg. Existing stars of Binnelanders, such Hans Strydom, Michelle Botes and Carl Beukes, will be joined by the likes of Jana Cilliers, Nick Boraine, Michelle Pienaar and Antony Coleman.

Binnelanders has certainly proved its popularity over the years, having started in October 2005 as a weekly one-hour series and evolving into a half-hour daily soap from 29 January 2007. The show is produced for M-Net by Friedrich and Elsje Stark.
