Tim Burton, director of weird and wonderful films like Edward Scissorhands, Beetle Juice and Mars Attacks, is to be jury chairman of the Cannes Film Festival which runs from 12 to 23 May.

In a statement, Burton said that when one thinks of Cannes, one thinks of world cinema. He described his appointment as jury chairman as a dream come true.

This isn’t the 51-year old American filmmaker’s first foray into Cannes jury-ship. He was a member of the jury in 1997 and was on the short film jury in 2006.
