Africa’s huge mobile growth

There has been a 550% increase in the number of mobile subscription in Africa over the last five years, according to a report from The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). In 2003 there were 54 million mobile subscribers; that figure grew to 350 million by 2008.

The countries with the most subscriptions are Gabon, Seychelles and South Africa, with Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia the least.

As per the UNCTAD report, there is robust interest among investors in expanding and upgrading ICT networks in Africa. (Source: Freeband TV News)
