Africa’s huge mobile growth

There has been a 550% increase in the number of mobile subscription in Africa over the last five years, according to a report from The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). In 2003 there were 54 million mobile subscribers; that figure grew to 350 million by 2008.

The countries with the most subscriptions are Gabon, Seychelles and South Africa, with Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia the least.
