Tue, 06 May 2008

The global film industry is gearing up for its annual glamfest, otherwise known as the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from 14 to 25 May in Cannes, France. Famous for attracting the world’s most glamorous movie stars, the Festival also has an active film market (Marche du Film) which this year will see some 8,000 producers, sales agents, distributors and financiers from 93 countries converge on Cannes. This is an 8% increase in attendance over last year and a 40% increase since 2003.

In response to significant screenings demand, three new screening rooms will complete the 30 existing ones, with an overall of 12 digital screening rooms. The Marche du Film will host 1,600 screenings.

The Cannes Film Festival also offers The Producers Network, which will see some 600 producers participate. Additionally, Cinando.com builds a permanent link between cinema industry professionals and lists more than 8,500 companies with daily profile updates.

This year the Marche du Film will host the Documentary Brunch, in a bid to attract international documentary makers. On the exhibition side, 300 companies will showcase their productions on more than 6,200m2 of exhibition space in the Palais des Festivals, with a further 120 exhibitors present in hotels or flats on the Croisette.
