One of the producers of Oscar best film nominee The Hurt Locker has been denied entry to the award ceremony on 7 March. Producer Nicolas Chartier has fallen foul of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the custodians of the Oscars, because he e-mailed his friends saying they should vote for his film and not for a $500m film (ie. Avatar).

This action has violated the Academy’s strict campaigning rules.

Should The Hurt Locker triumph on Sunday night, only producers, Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal and Gregory Shapiro will be able to accept the award.
