Tue, 06 May 2008

The low budget Afikaans teen comedy Bakgat! continues to make good at the South African box office, having amassed just over R2m in its three weeks of release. It was in seventh spot in the week 25 April to 1 May.

Top earner for that period was the family island adventure yarn, Nim’s Island, starring Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler. It made R1.5m in its first week.

In second spot was the comedy Mad Money (Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes), followed by new release Dan in Real Life, starring Steve Corell and Juliete Binoche. Another new release, the crime thriller Untraceable, made it into fourth spot.

The family comedy Game Plan was in fifth spot, having made R9.8m in six weeks of release. It has done better than the animated Dr Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who which has made R7.2m in seven weeks. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
