Studio Briefing reports that Google’s YouTube, which is facing a $1bn copyright-infringement lawsuit by Viacom, is claiming that Viacom has secretly uploaded some of its content on YouTube for promotional purposes.
According to Google’s documents filed in federal court in San Jose, Viacom asked its copyright policing service to ignore these promotional clips on YouTube. Meanwhile, Google’s stance on pirated material uploaded by YouTube users is that it isn’t liable but will remove specific material if asked by copyright holders to do so.
