At the time of going to press Screen Africa learnt that three South African films, Michael Raeburn's Triomf, Ralph Ziman's Jerusalema and Jann Turner's White Wedding, had been selected for competition at FESPACO, the Pan African Film & TV Festival of Ouagadougou, which takes place in Burkina Faso from 28 February to 7 March.

This edition of the festival celebrates FESPACO's 40th anniversary, as well as that of another iconic African film institution, namely FEPACI (Federation of Pan-African Filmmakers). BothÊFEPACI and FESPACO will host a joint gala dinner to mark the occasion.

With "African Cinema: Tourism and Cultural Heritage" as its theme, FESPACO 2009 will pay tribute to Ousmane Sembene, doyen of African filmmakers and pioneer of FESPACO, who passed away on 9 June 2007.

Running alongside the festival is the 14th African International Film and TV Market (MICA), a platform for professional buyers and distributors to meet and view films and for the exhibition of film equipment.
