First DRC/SA feature film

The first feature film from DRC/South African company Suka! Productions, Viva Riva! is currently in post-production. Directed by the DRC's Djo Tunda Wa Munga, the film is a co-production between DRC, South Africa, France (Formosa Productions) and Belgium (MG Productions).

At the time of going to press, the film's South African co-producer, Steven Markovitz, had just returned from the Berlin International Film Festival, where he premi red Suka! Productions Congo in Four Acts. The documentary generated a positive review in The Hollywood Reporter and has been invited to 10 festivals, including HotDocs.

Congo in Four Acts was born out of a nine monthÊtraining programme with a group of-first time filmmakers,-seven of whom went on to work on Viva Riva!

Markovitz first came into contact with Djo Tunda Wa Munga in Cannes, France a few years ago when the latter was looking for a co-producer for Viva Riva!. We started working on projects together and Djo then asked me to become a partner in his Kinshasa-based company Suka! Productions. We set up a Cape Town branch last year.
