Jozi Forever is a new film by writer/director Michael Raeburn (Jit, Triomf, Rhodesia Countdown, The Grass is Singing) which will go into production in 2010. The film is a co-production between Johannesburg based Zing Entertainment and GH Films of France. The producers are Leo Phiri and Tshepiso Sello, with executive producer Joel Phiri (Bunny Chow, Wah Wah, Max and Mona, Forgiveness).
The film is a comedy thriller and is set in the world of Johannesburg's new black middle class.
Raeburn says that the script came together in a matter of weeks. "The story is really a combination of contemporary culture mixed with all the great ingredients that make for a great story: love, betrayal, vengeance and the realisation of dreams. It shows Africa as a diverse and glamorous world; it is the La Dolce Vita of Africa."
Leo Phiri adds: "This is a feel good film, but with a thriller element. It is not about the past in South Africa but about what is happening now. It depicts South Africa as a global culture. Also because the film depicts the glam lifestyle and people in branded clothes, drinking the best champagne, we plan to do a lot of brand sponsorship in the film. This will be done subtly, but the film lends itself to brands."
