LECTURER IN FILM AND TELEVISION: CINEMATOGRAPHY

The Film and Television department in the School of Film Arts seeks to appoint a lecturer in Film and Television in a full-time post. The successful candidate will join enthusiastic academics and professionals in Open Window’s School of Film Arts – an interdisciplinary school including Film & TV, Motion Design, Sound Design, 3D Animation, Game Design, Screen Acting, Production Design and Screenwriting.
Teach at an undergraduate level in the subject Film and Television focused on the cinematography components.
Plan and manage weekly workshops.
Develop course content. Provide course notes, mentor students, conduct formative and summative assessments and record and finalise student achievements within the subject.
Assist in the management of the gear room and film studio spaces.
Minimum qualification: NQF Level 8 (honours degree or equivalent) or higher – in the field of Film and Television, Media studies, Fine Art or similar.
A portfolio featuring examples of audiovisual work.
Working knowledge of filmmaking equipment, camera systems and workflows from DSLR to RAW workflows.
Display strong conceptual considerations and practical experience in filmmaking disciplines.
A thorough knowledge of cinema history and current world cinema.
An appreciation for art and experimental filmmaking.
Skills and experience in any other moving image discipline, and/or music production or multi-media installation, animation or stop frame animation.
Generalist knowledge of non-linear editing software – Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve.
Good verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
Enthusiastic about the field of Film and Television and possessing a good grasp of the industry. The applicant is also required to maintain links to, and keep up with the industry.
Basic design abilities preferably in Adobe InDesign, or willing to learn new skills.
