History
In May 1988, Angela van Schalkwyk saw the potential for a trade publication dedicated to the film and television business in South Africa. In 1988 the film industry was enjoying a boom period. The recession which occurred in the industry in the following year affected everyone who depended thereon. Screen Africa was not immune to these adverse circumstances. It was, however, able to provide even the depressed industry with a service which served its interests and which the industry was willing to support with advertisements and subscriptions.
In the 21 years of its existence, Screen Africa became the leading film and television trade publication in English-speaking Africa.
Today Sun Circle Publishers has established itself as the only specialist entertainment publisher to embrace the areas of film, television, commercials, music and professional broadcast equipment. In the last few years, while many other trade publications have struggled to survive due to dwindling advertising, Sun Circle has shown a steady and impressive growth pattern.
